Department ESA Undergraduate Admissions - Group 4 About the Department The University of Chicago is one of 32 member institutions in the STARS (Small Town and Rural Students) College Network ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). Through philanthropy and institutional funding, STARS members are supporting thousands of rural students across the United States on their journey to college. UChicago's Admissions Office consists of a staff of over 40 people, most of whom are Admissions Counselors.

They manage marketing to and recruitment of prospective students as well as the admissions process for first year and transfer students into The College, and summer programs for high school students. Admissions also oversees programming directly tied to the STARS College Network's mission. Through the commitment to STARS, UChicago is the central host for a group of College Advisors intended to remotely support rural students in their college search at select partner rural high schools across the country.

We currently have two STARS College Advisors in the office; this third College Advisor will help with the expansion of our high school partnerships in new states.

Job Summary This STARS College Advisor will be based in the Chicagoland area and travel for meetings and events to the University of Chicago campus located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. They will join a team of STARS College Advisors based in Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Maine and Florida. Each college advisor will report to a supervisor and will advise high school students through the college process at 6-8 partner high schools, largely through video conference.

The work of the Advisor includes virtual meetings with students, virtual and in-person presentations on applying to college, and regular in-person site visits to assigned schools. Responsibilities
* Regularly meets with the Director of High School Initiatives and the STARS Program Director at UChicago to check on progress and performance.
* Provides 1:1 college advising in a remote setting with assigned high schools.
* Travels to assigned high schools at least twice per school year for in-person meetings with students and school community members.
* Hosts virtual and in-person events with high schools to promote college-going, assist with application completion, provide essay support, and share information on applying for financial aid.
* Responds to students and partner high schools via phone and e-mail.
* Understands that weekend and evening availability is expected throughout the year for some aspects of the position due to time zone differences and for travel to high school sites or STARS member sites.
* Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including routinely counseling students and parents regarding the admission process.
* Participates in special projects such as developing marketing materials, monitoring budgets and recruiting underrepresented groups.
* Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

* Candidates should live in the Chicagoland area or be able to relocate before hire date. Regular presence in the office on the University of Chicago campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago for meetings and events is required.
