Harold Washington College is currently seeking a Full‑Time Faculty to teach Computer Information Systems:

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or Information Security with concentration in Cybersecurity or related area of specialization or equivalent. Industry‑recognized certifications or related work experience can substitute for the degree concentration requirement; related area of specialization includes but is not limited to Information Security, Information Systems Management, Network Security, Information Assurance, Digital Forensics, Incident Response, etc.

Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.

Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System, preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students required.

Experience with a diverse, multi‑lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
  • Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred. Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

A teaching demonstration will be required of selected candidates at a future date.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $58,000.00 Annually;
This position is represented by Local 1600 Union. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
