Daystar Academy, an IB continuum school in the city of Chicago, serves students in primary, middle school and high school. We are looking for a highly qualified, justice-minded After School Program Coordinator for the school year.
PURPOSE:To coordinate and oversee the After School Program (ASP) which provides services for Daystar families each day school is in session.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Interviews and hires qualified staff to provide adequate student supervision, as outlined in the written program guidelines, provides necessary training for all ASP staff, provides ASP staff with up-to-date emergency and pick-up information, regularly monitors and observes staff and gives them feedback, verifies that background checks are completed for all staff, supports and assists staff with parent and teacher communication, verifies that staff and volunteers adhere to program guidelines, verifies that staff complete behavior, incident, and accident reports.
Verifies that approved snack supplies are available, makes activity supplies and games available, implements a schedule that provides time for reading and/or homework, monitors expenses, and coordinates with the Athletic Director for availability and use of the gym and field.
Reviews and updates the written program guidelines, makes recommendations for changes, and provides program guidelines to all staff, as deemed necessary.
Ensures that all ASP staff receive training that covers the goals and objectives of the program and professional responsibilities, including but not limited to, supervision and management of students, appropriate and inappropriate activities, handling emergencies and behavior incidents, use of equipment, communication, etc.
Maintains communication and other records to adequately document all accident, incident, and behavior reports, when necessary makes the Director of Student Life, Grade Level Administrator and/or Head of School (or her designee) immediately aware of accident, incident and behavior issues, and prepares reports as requested by Administration.
Oversees the registration platform, ensuring program details are current, monitoring student enrollment for daily attendance tracking and staffing coordination. Responds to questions and issues related to the program, arranges for substitutes when needed, provides input for assessment of program, and verifies that both set-up and clean-up are completed.
