Position SummaryThe Extra Help Instructional Development Specialist will support the University of Illinois College of Medicine's transition from its current LMS to a new LMS and the implementation of a new scheduling and assessment management system. The Extra Help Employee will assist the Director of Instructional Technology and Design as well as faculty, staff, and course coordinators in preparing, reviewing, and migrating course materials while ensuring accessibility, consistency, and alignment with educational best practices.
Knowledge of medical education is preferred to support the unique curricular and assessment needs of the College of Medicine.
- Assist faculty and coordinators with migrating courses into the new LMS, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and instructional consistency.
- Review course content and structures to identify areas for improvement in navigation, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA compliance), and instructional design.
- Provide guidance to faculty and staff on LMS features, tools, and best practices for effective teaching and learning.
- Locate, appraise, and prepare instructional resources (multimedia, learning aids, simulations) for integration into the LMS.
- Support faculty in developing clear course objectives, assessments, and feedback mechanisms within the LMS and scheduling/assessment system.
- Assist coordinators and administrators with entering, organizing, and aligning course, block, and clerkship data in the scheduling/assessment system, including schedules, evaluations, and assessment tools.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of assessment mapping, evaluation forms, and reporting functions within the scheduling/assessment system to meet accreditation and curriculum oversight requirements.
- Document processes and create job aids or quick reference guides to assist faculty, staff, and coordinators in using both the LMS and scheduling/assessment system.
- Collect and report feedback on the migration and implementation processes to inform ongoing improvements.
- Collaborate with instructional technology and design staff to ensure quality and consistency across courses and assessment systems.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support both the LMS transition and scheduling/assessment system implementation.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Knowledge of medical education curriculum and course structures.
- Knowledge of LMS functionality and course design principles.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508).
- Knowledge of scheduling and assessment management systems.
- Skill in reviewing and structuring course materials for clarity and effectiveness.
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, coordinators, and administrators.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks during large-scale transitions.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Preferred: familiarity with medical education curriculum, including block and clerkship structures, and accreditation requirements.
