Job Summary

The ELL Teacher provides instructional and language support to English Learners in an inclusive elementary setting. The teacher implements research-based ESL/bilingual instructional models, aligns teaching with WIDA English Language Development Standards, and works collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure equitable access to grade-level curriculum.

Education, Certification, and Licensure
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bilingual and/or ESL Endorsement
Experience
  • Teach academic subjects to identified English Learners (ELs) using research-based methods to support both language and content development
  • Administer and evaluate student performance using appropriate language proficiency assessments and achievement tests
  • Provide instructional support and coaching to classroom teachers on bilingual and ESL instructional strategies, materials, and methods
  • Collaborate with school staff to plan, develop, and implement instructional programs that meet EL students’ academic and language needs
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings related to student progress, program compliance, and academic success
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required district, state, and federal reports
  • Analyze student performance and program data to inform instruction and make recommendations for improvement
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities
  • Deliver small-group or co-taught instruction focused on English language development in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Plan lessons that integrate academic content and language objectives aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and WIDA Standards.
  • Support students in developing literacy and academic vocabulary necessary for success in grade-level classrooms.
  • Collaborate with general education and intervention staff to differentiate instruction and modify assignments for EL students.
  • Administer and interpret WIDA Screener, ACCESS for ELLs, and other assessments to monitor language proficiency growth.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation for all EL students as required by ISBE and Title III.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provide language or cultural support to families as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and staff to facilitate understanding of academic expectations and student needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized plans for EL students when necessary.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and professional development related to language acquisition and equity.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Language Acquisition & Support.

Terms of Employment

Salary is based on market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent and Board of Education.
