Pay Range: $32.00 - $52.08 per hour

Summary

The Assistant Principal expertly provides and coordinates the educational program for children in a therapeutic school. This includes assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The Assistant Principal provides leadership and direction for teachers in concert with the Director and in accordance with the Illinois State Board of Education Standards. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Type 75 Supervisory Certificate.
  • Special Education Certificate (LBS
    1) with focus in ED or LD.
  • Progressive teaching experience.
  • High level of analytical ability.
  • Ability to work in a complex educational, clinical, and administrative program.
  • Communication skills required to lead, teach, and persuade others.
  • Ability to interact with others effectively in difficult situations.
Responsibilities
  • Functions as an expert classroom teacher.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills in classroom teaching.
  • Serves as a resource and role model at the school.
  • Coordinates complex cases, including development of Individual Education Plans, daily lesson plans, and annual curriculum.
  • Directs educational activities for the school.
  • Incorporates ancillary staff into the classroom to enhance each student’s academic, emotional and behavioral development.
  • Selects and uses effective teaching techniques and materials to implement established curriculum goals with respect to the student’s learning style, cognitive ability, and emotional issues.
  • Monitors the plan, delivery and outcomes of the academic program for each student.
  • Monitors each student’s IEP goals and documentation by the treatment team for progress toward each goal.
  • Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate care for each student.
  • Establishes and maintains collegial relationships with CNC, therapists, physicians, and consultants.
  • Participates in transition planning activities in conjunction with classroom teachers, school districts, and other members of the team.
  • Manages personnel.
  • Fosters the autonomy of the professional teaching staff, consistent with each person’s level of experience and expertise.
  • Maintains standards of professional performance and conduct at the school.
  • Evaluates teachers both informally and formally through performance appraisal.
  • Recruits and retains teachers with Director.
  • Ensures education of teaching staff to pertinent teaching assessments and methods. Ensures that teaching staff attends mandatory in services.
  • Resolves interpersonal conflicts.
  • Directs school operations as negotiated by the Director.
  • Provides administrative support for problem solving clinical and managerial issues.
  • Establishes, implements, and evaluates school goals in collaboration with leadership groups and staff. Includes school improvement plans and North Central Association (NCA) goals and implementation.
  • Coordinates with school districts as negotiated with Director.
  • Directs IEPs/MDCs as negotiated with Director.
  • Maintains a climate conducive to open and positive communication.
  • Demonstrates diplomacy and sound judgement in all interactions.
  • Maintains involvement and communication with students’ families.
  • Monitors staff cooperation in the implementation of change.
  • Directs orientation of teachers.
  • Collaborates with Director to provide comprehensive orientation to teachers.
  • Supports and guides teachers throughout first year as much as necessary.
