DescriptionThe Dean provides operational, academic, and strategic leadership for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS), overseeing programs, faculty, staff, budgets, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. The role ensures high-quality, student-centered education that prepares graduates to meet evolving healthcare needs while advancing the University’s mission, academic excellence, fiscal sustainability, and community engagement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Implement the University’s mission as a Catholic institution founded by the Sisters of Mercy.
- Advance Board-approved strategic priorities and participate in institutional planning, including evaluation of effective academic structures within SONHS.
- Prioritize academic programs to strengthen student outcomes, enrollment, workforce alignment, and financial sustainability.
- Collaborate with Enrollment, Advancement, and Alumni Services to support recruitment, retention, fundraising, and program growth.
- Build partnerships with healthcare systems, clinical agencies, and community leaders to expand clinical placements and employment pathways.
- Maintain strong academic policies related to program review, curriculum effectiveness, student learning outcomes, accreditation readiness, and resource allocation.
- Evaluate SONHS operations to improve efficiency and student service.
- Recruit, develop, and retain qualified, mission-driven faculty and staff committed to teaching, scholarship, advising, retention, and completion.
- Implement faculty and staff development, evaluation, and post-tenure review processes.
- Oversee academic programs and ensure compliance with institutional and specialized accreditation.
- Serve as Chief Nurse Officer for regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Provide collaborative leadership within SONHS, Faculty Senate, and University committees.
- Implement University policies and Service Excellence standards.
- Partner with the Provost and President to advance institutional strategy.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive environment consistent with University Core Values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Relocation support of up to $2,000 is available.
Qualifications- Graduate degree in nursing and a terminal degree in nursing or related field from an accredited institution.
- Registered Nurse or eligible for Illinois licensure.
- Minimum five years of nursing practice and five years of academic experience.
- Administrative leadership experience preferred.
- Commitment to diverse student populations and healthcare communities.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage confidential matters and multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
