HUMANITIES FACULTY, PART-TIME
Harold Washington College is seeking part‑time faculty to teach one or more courses during upcoming terms. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, a commitment to the college mission, and a record of demonstrated success in the classroom supporting and cultivating student learning.
Subjects We Seek- Fine Arts/Cinema Studies (Art history, film appreciation, film history)
- Humanities (Cultural/ethnic studies, feminism/arts, Latin American/Latino studies, mass media, pop culture)
- Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies
- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students' active participation.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
- Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Contribute to and provide leadership in the students' academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
- Academic credentials:
Generally a Master's degree in the subject or a Master's plus 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline. Eligibility is determined by transcripts, catalog course descriptions, and/or documentation from the granting institution that clarifies the content in the major is appropriate for the teaching assignment. - In cases of non‑traditional preparation, relevant industry or specialized accreditation experience may be considered for exception approval via the Vice President and the Tested Experience form.
- Discipline-specific credentials:
- Fine Arts (Art History/Appreciation & Cinema):
Master's in Art History or M.A. in Cinema. - Humanities: M.A. in Humanities or Classics or Comparative Religions or Foreign Language literature – or Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in related humanities disciplines. Other related degrees may also be considered.
- Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies:
Master's degree or 30 graduate credit hours in Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies and successful completion of annual CCC GWSS training.
- Fine Arts (Art History/Appreciation & Cinema):
- Knowledge of Brightspace and Zoom – preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students.
- Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open-access mission of the community college.

Salary Range: $800.00 per contact hour.
