Morgan Park Academy (MPA) is a coeducational, college-preparatory independent day school serving students from Pre-K through Grade 12. Position OverviewThe STEM Teacher will design and deliver dynamic, inquiry-based, interdisciplinary instruction that integrates science, technology, engineering, and math. This role supports MPA’s mission by nurturing curious, confident learners through project-based learning, design thinking, and authentic exploration. The STEM Teacher partners across departments to connect STEM learning with the school’s broader liberal arts and leadership goals.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver rigorous, student-centered STEM instruction aligned to grade-level standards and MPA’s educational philosophy
- Facilitate hands-on experiences using makerspace tools, robotics, coding platforms, engineering design challenges, and meaningful technology integration
- Encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration in every lesson
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate STEM concepts across disciplines (e.g., math, science, arts, humanities)
- Contribute to ongoing curriculum development that reflects best practices in STEM and MPA’s mission of innovation and leadership
- Support co-curricular opportunities such as robotics, coding clubs, design challenges, and competitions
Assessment & Feedback
- Create authentic assessments that measure both conceptual understanding and real-world application
- Analyze student performance to differentiate instruction and personalize learning
- Communicate progress and areas for growth to students and families in meaningful ways
Student Support & Community Engagement
- Build a classroom culture that values curiosity, resilience, mutual respect, and ethical inquiry
- Champion student participation in school-wide STEM activities and interdisciplinary projects
- Engage with families to support academic growth and share the value of STEM learning in students’ futures
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate actively in professional learning communities and school-wide initiatives
- Model reflective practice aligned with MPA’s values and evaluation framework
- Support MPA’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, leadership, and community
- Advisor for eSports and/or other related STEM organizations
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or related content area (Master’s preferred)
- Illinois Teacher Licensure or equivalent
- Teaching certification or equivalent experience in STEM instruction (independent school experience a plus)
- Experience with project-based learning, inquiry-driven approaches, or makerspace environments
- Strong technology integration skills and comfort with contemporary educational tools
