ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR - ENGLISH ENGLISH, LITERATURE, & SPEECH DEPARTMENT MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Part‑Time Adjunct Instructor of English to teach one or more courses during an upcoming term. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, a commitment to the college mission, and a record of demonstrated success in the classroom supporting and cultivating student learning.
Instructors will teach in person at both the Malcom X College Main campus and West Campus, with a preference for daytime hours. Courses include:
- ENGLISH 96 (Developmental English and Reading)
- ENGLISH 101 (Composition I)
- ENGLISH 102 (Composition II – Research Based)
- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps them problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of the learning outcomes.
- Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity.
- Contribute to and provide leadership in the student academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
- Master’s degree in English Language and Literature.
- Or a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or Composition/Rhetoric, or MA in (print) Journalism.
- Knowledge of Brightspace and Zoom preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students.
- Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population desired.
- Commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
