The Adult Education (AE) Department provides District-wide management oversight and policy direction for Adult Education programs, services, and initiatives offered across the colleges, working to achieve performance goals focused on increasing the number and proportion of ABE/ASE/ESL students who advance to and succeed in college-level courses.
The AE Department and its leadership ensure that adult students have clear pathways to succeed and accomplish their goals. The department provides basic educational programs that help adults become literate, learn English as a second language (ESL), obtain an Illinois High School Diploma and gains the knowledge, skills and guidance necessary to transition into college and career programs.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVEReporting to the Vice Chancellor of Adult Education, the District Director-Instruction (Adult Education) provides strategic leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of district wide instructional systems and processes to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality adult education programs across all campuses.
The District Director cultivates and strengthens partnerships with college Deans and senior administrators that will support the ongoing development of adult education instruction, support services, and transition programs to successfully prepare adult learners for continuing education and employment. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Instructional Leadership and Program Development- Provides strategic leadership and collaborates with college Senior Deans, Associate Deans, and Program Managers across campuses to provide quality instruction that leads to increased student success through program completion, transitions into credit and career programs, and level gains.
Responsibilities include:- Promoting collaboration among colleges and departments to enhance instruction and improve the student learning experience while working with college administrators to ensure appropriate staffing levels, training & development, and student supports are in place to promote student success.
- Gathering and analyzing data on student outcomes (such as retention, completion, measurable skill gains) to inform reporting, program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.
- Supervising and directing Curriculum Specialists within the Adult Education District Office instructional team, as well as facilitating ongoing collaboration between Curriculum Specialists and campus Adult Education administrators to support instructional implementation and program improvement.
- Assists in the design and development of standardized curriculum, lesson plans, and syllabi for high quality instruction that comply with standards established by the Office of Career,Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE), ICCB, National Reporting Standards (NRS) and CCC
- Manages administrative and operational responsibilities for Curriculum Specialists, including review and approval of timesheets, telework requests, and workload assignments.
- Manages the posting, selection process, and notification of Adult Educators selected to serve as course developers for the following term. Provides ADED Brightspace Course Template and Rubric Training for course developers each term.
- Creates and oversees the use of the project hour tracking tools related to course development activities.
- Provides strategic direction, in collaboration with Adult Education leadership and Curriculum Specialists, for the development, revision, and implementation of district wide adult education curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment frameworks.
- Leads staff in the creation and execution of Professional Development (PD) related training activities based on identified AE program and staff needs, including developing and maintaining a PD Guide for use by Adult Educators and administrators
- Oversees and maintain the CCC Adult Education Professional Development Calendar as well as the collection of PD attendance records.
- Supports college staff to ensure Adult Education Instructors attend scheduled PD sessions and that they meet annual PD requirements in compliance with Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and CCC standards, as well as tracking completion of required Standards Proficient Instructor Training.
- Provides training for Adult Education Deans and Managers on the effective use of the evaluation process, conducts Evaluation Orientations for Adult Educators, and assists in tracking the completion of Adult Educator evaluations by campuses.
- Creates, updates, and monitors results of the Professional Development Evaluation completed by Adult Educators each term.
- Periodically collaborates with Adult Education leadership to review and update the evaluation tools as needed.
