The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. Coordinate the formation and implementation of Pastoral Migratoria (PM), an Immigrant Social Ministry, currently functioning in 40 Hispanic parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Ensure high quality culturally-sensitive formation, training and ongoing communication with PM faith leaders. Provide ongoing support to parishes and PM leaders who have been commissioned to help lead their community to respond to parish and community needs.
This position requires a passion to develop Hispanic leaders to serve their immigrant communities through faith formation, Catholic Social Teaching and social action. A qualified candidate will possess a skill set of strong collaboration, as well as the ability to act with flexibility and resilience to attain the goals of the PM program.
Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and launch Pastoral Migratoria's formation and leadership training activities in new Hispanic parishes, and re-energize existing ones, utilizing a process of reflection and dialogue (rooted in Aparecida*) with immigrant parish leaders/ministers.
* Collaborate and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders. This includes pastors, pastoral staff, Parish Vitality Coordinators, OHDS/Immigration staff and partners (e.g., educational institutions, professional allies, foreign consulates, community organizations, etc.), reflecting the principles of the Archdiocesan vision of Renew My Church.
* Develop and coordinate continuous educational activities for PM leaders to respond to social ministry needs in parish communities. Identify needed topics by "listening from the ground up". Communicate training program in a verbal or written format utilizing a variety of instructional formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, PowerPoint and/or lectures.
* Lead ongoing development of PM formation activities and programs (e.g., quarterly leadership forums, semi/annual retreat(s), in collaboration with OHDS/Immigration Team. Participate as a presenter, facilitator, or resource person as appropriate. Incorporate best practices which will maintain the mission/integrity of Pastoral Migratoria as a Catholic faith-based ministry.
* Develop/maintain a library, both on-line and hard copy, of community information and resources for Hispanic parishes. Contribute/create communication content about Pastoral Migratoria's ministry and efficiently disseminate to all stakeholders via the PM website, Facebook, other social media, as well as updates, calendaring, testimonial collection and e-newsletter in collaboration with OHDS/Immigration team.
* Provide targeted educational, professional development and pastoral support to Grupo de Apoyo Pastoral (GAP) staff (e.g., Cluster Pastoral Liaisons between OHDS-Immigration and PM parishes). These targeted and replicable supports will respond to the needs articulated by GAP staff and the immigrant leaders they mentor, in order to strengthen PM leadership and organizational development at all levels.
* Develop and implement ongoing grassroots leadership training activities for immigrant lay leaders of Pastoral Migratoria ministry, as well as Pastoral Companions. Incorporate leading practices to maintain PM's integrity as a Catholic faith-based ministry with a praxis of pastoral accompaniment.
* Prepare timely reports, gather data which captures unique and programmatic outcomes; inform OHDS of opportunities and challenges; support management in fundraising efforts as requested.
* Collaborate and support the formation and ongoing leadership the Archdiocesan Polish Immigrant-to-Immigrant Ministry.
Requirements:
* College degree in theology or social sciences; advanced degree in pastoral or social ministry preferred
* 3-5 years of experience in program development/implementation in a pastoral or social ministry
* Experience serving or working with the immigrant community, immigration issues and policies
* Experience collaborating with parishes, priests and parish staffs
* Experience/ability to facilitate faith-based leadership training and formation
* Fully bilingual Spanish English; excellent written and public speaking skills
* Excellent interpersonal, pastoral and public relations skills
