Catholic School Search
The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years. This position is for the 2026 - 2027 school year.
The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a teacher in a Catholic school, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students, both as a role model and through the various tasks, actions and other responsibilities assigned to the Teacher. The Teacher is a ministerial employee because of the Teacher's role as both a representative of the Church and as a communicator of the Church's message to the children entrusted to the Church's care.
The Teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The Teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The Teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.
The Teacher is a representative of the Archbishop of Chicago, effectuating his ministry of Catholic education and the religious teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church at the level of the local school.
St. Procopius Elementary School is Chicago's only Catholic dual-language (English/Spanish) school. We offer children (pre-kindergarten through eighth grade) a truly unique experience in a faith-based environment firmly grounded in the Catholic tradition of education. As a dual-language school, instruction copius is divided between English and Spanish. In a dual-language instructional setting, there are no translations, nor are lessons repeated in the other language;
each subject area for a given grade is taught solely in one language or the other. As well, the concept of dual-language instruction does not involve Spanish being taught as a second (or foreign) language; rather, both English and Spanish alternate as primary languages of instruction in all subject areas. Spanish fluency is required for this position.
The fundamental principle of our two-way-immersion dual-language program is that the core curriculum is taught in two languages to both native Spanish speakers and native English speakers. In this manner, students not only learn from their instructors in traditional ways, but are also interacting with each other during lessons and learning academic vocabulary that allows them to build bridges of knowledge between both languages.
In its pre-kindergarten programs, St. Procopius uses a 90/10 Spanish/English instructional split, gradually incorporating more English instruction until an even split between English and Spanish is reached in the third grade. The ultimate goal is that, in addition to fulfilling the requirements of the core curriculum, students will be bilingual and bi-literate when they graduate to high school.
Multicultural immersion is a key component of the educational experience copius. We are a racially and ethnically diverse community. We celebrate diversity, and we strive for our students not only to have an appreciation of their own culture, but also to develop an understanding of other cultures. This is an idea that we believe is a building block for future success, as well as for the development of meaningful interpersonal communication skills in an increasingly smaller and more diverse world.
St. Procopius School is dedicated to providing dual-language instruction based in the Catholic faith. We offer students and parents alike a singular educational experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the Chicago area.
