Tenure-Track Biology Faculty

Overview

Harry S Truman College seeks candidates for a Tenure-Track Full-Time Faculty member in the biology department. Primary academic assignment responsibilities will commence in Fall 2026 and include teaching courses in Environmental Science, Water Resources, Ecology, and Natural Resources. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem‑solving.

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote student active participation.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of learning outcomes.
• Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
• Contribute to and provide leadership in students’ academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork among community members.

• Master’s degree or higher in the life sciences field (including Animal Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Bioengineering, Botany, Cell Biology, Ecology, Environmental Biology, Field Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, MD, Mycology, Nutrition, Ornithology, and Zoology).
• Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar preferred.
• Prior experience with online teaching via Zoom and/or online teaching certification strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse groups of staff and students; required.
• Experience with a diverse, multi‑lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
• Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and other relevant work is highly considered.

Salary Range is $58,000.00 - $65,000.00. Offered salary will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement and applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Chicago residency is required for all full‑time employees within 6 months of hire.
