We are seeking a creative and passionate Mosaic Art Instructorto be part of our 4-week June summer program. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in mosaic arts and public art installation projects and inspires elementary and middle school students through hands-on artistic experiences.
In this role, our ideal candidate will lead and support the design and creation of original mosaic works, collaborate with fellow artists and program staff, and guide students in developing creative design concepts for a community-facing display. The Instructor will foster student creativity, encourage artistic expression, and help students build confidence through the visual arts.
This is a contract position with an hourly pay range of $55–$65, based on experience. The schedule consists of four days per week, 2.5 hours per day (mid-day), during the 4-week summer session. Successful candidates will be considered for continued opportunities during our regular program year (September through May) at sites throughout the Chicagoland area.
The summer program site is located in the Chicago 60617 area and will serve elementary and/or middle school students.
Responsibilities
- Deliver effective and innovate mosaic art instruction to elementary and/or middle school aged students
- Ability to work with students to develop design ideas that will be used in the creation of mosaic projects that will be on display at the program site
- Collaborate with fellow artists, educators, and staff to develop engaging art projects and activities
Develop plans and prepare material for class sessions (with support from staff) - Use a wide variety of techniques to engage students and provide a high-quality learning experience
- Implement behavior management strategies to foster a positive learning environment during classes
- Maintain an organized workspace and manage materials effectively
- Maintain a high level of flexibility and professionalism at all times
- Collaborate effectively with other EdIT Teaching Artists and staff
Requirements, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- A minimum of 2 years experience working as an instructor or teaching artist in the area of the visual arts
- A minimum of 3 years experience in the mosaic arts and with public artwork
- Proven experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to multitask across a variety of areas and build strong relationships with peers from different backgrounds and program areas
- Excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated and proactive in individual projects.
