Schedule: Evenings and/or weekends; teaching 4-week and 8-week classes and 1-day workshops
MADE Chicago provides Material Art and Design Education to creatives of all levels and backgrounds. We are building a woodshop that supports skill development, creative exploration, and access to high-quality tools and instruction.
We are seeking an experienced Woodshop Instructor to lead adult woodworking classes. This role is ideal for a thoughtful maker and educator who can guide students through project-based learning, reinforce clear project sequencing, and contribute to a supportive and engaging shop environment.
Responsibilities- Teach woodworking fundamentals and intermediate techniques in a hands‑on setting
- Implement project‑based lesson plans for 4‑week and 8‑week classes, as well as 1‑day workshops
- Reinforce clear project sequencing that supports skill development over time
- Instruct students on the proper use, care, and maintenance of woodshop tools and machinery
- Demonstrate and enforce strong safety protocols for all tools and shop practices
- Support students in developing and completing individual projects
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming shop environment
- Advanced knowledge of woodshop tools, their use, and project creation
- Strong understanding of woodworking materials and processes
- Experience with project sequencing for woodworking skill‑building
- Teaching experience required (adult education preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of shop safety standards and protocols
- Degree in Sculpture, Architecture, Designed Objects, or extensive related professional experience required
- Availability to teach evenings and/or weekends
