Job OverviewCLASS
TITLE:
Teacher. Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
- Responsible for instructional planning, including providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program.
- Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, evaluate pupils' progress, and maintain current and accurate records of pupils' achievements.
- Implement instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, drawing from available instructional materials.
- Participate in development and implementation of new teaching techniques, provide bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils' current work.
- Exhibit and apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
- Participate in programs to improve student attendance, promote anti-vandalism programs, and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within classroom and school grounds.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts, encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
- Initiate appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel in accordance with school procedures.
- Communicate with parents or guardians to counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
- Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings; may coordinate and attend class field trips; may work in extracurricular and after‑school activities.
- Utilize appropriate resources available in the community.
- Education:
Completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain Illinois State Board of Education teaching certificate(s). - License:
Hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position. - Knowledge:
Subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles, classroom and behavior management techniques. - Abilities:
Modify instruction to meet student needs, cooperate with faculty and administration in program implementation, work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives, understand students' physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns. - Skills:
Application of contemporary teaching practices; good oral and written communication; good interpersonal skills; exercise sound and professional judgment.
Light work:
Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds frequently.
