Peer Educator (Project S.A.F.E.)

The purpose of the Project S.A.F.E. Peer Education Program is to empower students through peer‑to‑peer training on gender‑based violence prevention and resources through the lens of mental health and community wellness.

Primary Objective

Reporting to the Campus Coordinator-Project S.A.F.E., Peer Educators will serve as student leaders who work to promote a cultural shift regarding gender‑based violence on their campus and throughout their community. They will receive training, participate in the campus Coordinated Community Response Team, support virtual and on‑campus Project S.A.F.E. events, and have the opportunity to develop educational materials, present workshops to other students, and develop and publish social media content.

Duties
  • Completes mandatory Peer Educator Orientation on gender‑based violence, bystander intervention, and suicide awareness.
  • Engage with peers on campus to promote a campus culture of respect and safety by providing accurate information about healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and on‑campus advocacy resources.
  • Complete administrative and support tasks to support Project S.A.F.E. gender‑based violence prevention and response programming.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to improve understanding of gender‑based violence, barriers to accessing support, and disparate impacts on marginalized populations.
  • Support outreach efforts by developing programming materials, disseminating flyers, creating social media posts, and helping to coordinate Project S.A.F.E. events.
  • Attend monthly campus Coordinated Community Response Team meetings and monthly district wide Peer Education meetings.
  • Advocate for mental health and safety on campus and work to reduce stigma related to gender‑based violence and mental health.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre‑credit or credit classes.
  • Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students).
  • Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions.
  • Applicants must not be current full or part‑time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.
  • Enrolled freshmen may work during the break prior to attending the next school term.
  • All positions are “employment at‑will.”
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at City Colleges of Chicago.
  • Interest in violence prevention and educating peers on gender‑based violence.
  • Responsible, reliable, and able to communicate effectively.
  • Brings a positive attitude toward learning, meeting challenges, thinking creatively, and working as a member of a team.
  • Open to receiving feedback and using it to improve performance.
  • Possesses good presentation skills or is willing to develop them.
  • Willingness and availability to attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Hourly Rate: $17.00/hr offered rate will be determined based on whether assigned location is on campus or off campus.
