Assistant Professor of Physics (Quantum Physics)
The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering Studies seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track assistant professor in physics with a specialization in quantum experimental physics. We particularly encourage candidates whose background includes biophysics, chemical biology, biosensing, or biopharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate physics courses.
- Develop and deliver course materials and syllabi.
- Participate in research and pursue external funding.
- Contribute to curriculum development in Physics, Biophysics, and Engineering Physics options.
- Engage in departmental learning assessment efforts, governance, and community outreach.
- Lead a vigorous undergraduate research program.
Required
Education:
Earned terminal degree from an accredited university; meets tenure and rank requirements defined by the collective bargaining unit; evidence of scholarly research and receipt of competitive external funding.
Previous academic experience at a four‑year college or university, and previous professional experience related to the discipline, as required by rank.
Preferred Qualifications- Modern teaching approaches that incorporate active learning.
- Mentoring undergraduate research students.
- Experience teaching undergraduates and working with students from under‑resourced communities.
Faculty positions are governed by a collective bargaining agreement; duties include teaching, research, and service. First‑year appointment: 1 course per semester; subsequent years: 4–8 credit courses per year. Faculty are expected to develop and maintain high‑quality undergraduate research programs.
