The School Counselor will demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to assist students in identifying and achieving academic, career, personal, and social‑emotional goals.
The School Counselor promotes and supports the educational process in a faith‑based community by helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents, while planning post‑high‑school plans.
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in School Counseling; school counseling experience; individual initiative and professional collaboration/teamwork; excellent interpersonal relations and written and oral communication skills; knowledge of school‑related software, Microsoft Office, and Google Applications.
Essential Job Functions- Assists and counsels all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
- Assists in planning a four‑year academic program including course selection appropriate to students’ needs, interests, social‑emotional functioning, academic achievement, and post‑high‑school plans.
- Communicates the goals of the school counseling program to students, parents/guardians, administrators, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Monitors, interprets, and utilizes student data to promote academic achievement, identify strengths and needs for program development, and implement individualized interventions.
- Collaborates and communicates with teachers, support staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and outside agencies to assist students with academic, social/emotional, and career planning.
- Implements academic and social‑emotional interventions and develops career plans in partnership with team members.
- Connects students to sources of information about careers and promotes career‑related programs offered through ICCP.
- Collaborates and consults with students regarding post‑high‑school needs and plans.
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Participates on the crisis intervention team and refers students to appropriate professionals.
- Writes letters of recommendation for students.
- Facilitates the preparation of reports for team meetings, Special Education meetings, 504 plan meetings, and works with the Dean of Students on disciplinary referrals when necessary.
- Attends and presents at various evening counseling programs for parents and students.
Full‑time position, 10½ months, with several evening requirements.
Work EnvironmentIC Catholic Prep (“ICCP”) is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Elmhurst, IL, which has been transforming the lives of young men and women and their communities since 1936. Situated in the Diocese of Joliet, ICCP is the oldest Catholic, co‑educational high school in DuPage County, Illinois and the only high school in DuPage that is part of a parish community, Immaculate Conception Parish.
The school has a diverse student population, with current enrollment of close to 300 students from more than 40 surrounding communities. More than 80% of the student body is Catholic.
Salary: 50,000 – 65,000. Eligible for benefits. Eligible for sick/personal days.
