Job Summary

Class title:
Teacher.

Characteristics:
Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all students in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Essential Functions
  • Plan instructional lessons and prepare materials in accordance with program objectives.
  • Establish positive learning expectations, evaluate student progress, and maintain accurate records.
  • Implement instructional methods based on contemporary learning theory, use available materials, develop new techniques, and maintain reflective bulletin boards.
  • Apply curriculum knowledge and participate in programs to improve attendance and promote anti‑vandalism.
  • Establish and maintain classroom conduct rules, maintain attendance records and seating charts, and encourage self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
  • Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and counsel students on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
  • Participate in in‑service and professional staff meetings; coordinate and attend class field trips; work in extracurricular and after‑school activities; utilize community resources.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of all student‑teaching requirements and coursework for teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Valid teaching license:
    Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) endorsed for this position.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification, contemporary teaching principles, and classroom and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet student needs, collaborate with faculty and administration, work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members, and understand student patterns.
  • Skill in modern teaching practices, strong oral and written communication, interpersonal abilities, and sound professional judgment.
Physical Requirements

Light work:
Exert up to 20 pounds occasionally or 10 pounds frequently; move objects; stoop occasionally; reach frequently; handle objects occasionally; talk and hear constantly; use near visual acuity; occasional use of vision.
