Location
West Side - 2400 South Marshall Boulevard (John Spry Community School)
Salary Range$64,469.94 to $82,839.39
Responsibilities- Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.
- Instructional planning, including written lesson plans consistent with the objectives of the instructional program.
- Establish positive learning expectations and evaluate pupil progress.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil achievements.
- Implement instructional methods using contemporary theories of learning.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques.
- Provide bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils’ current work.
- Contribute to programs to improve student attendance and anti‑vandalism.
- Maintain reasonable rules of conduct in classroom and school grounds, consistent with the Chicago Public Schools Uniform Discipline Code.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
- Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
- Ensure fairness and maintain respect in teacher‑pupil relationships.
- Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel.
- Communicate with parents or guardians about academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
- Participate in in‑service meetings, professional staff meetings, and utilize provided materials.
- Coordinate and attend class field trips, extracurricular and after‑school activities.
- Utilize community resources appropriately.
- Completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Valid teaching license:
Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed. - Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
- Knowledge of contemporary teaching principles and classroom/behavior management techniques.
- Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
- Ability to work cooperatively with faculty and administration in curriculum design.
- Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives.
- Ability to understand physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Professional judgment in teaching and decision making.
Light work: able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally or ten (10) pounds frequently. Physical demands include occasional stooping, reaching, handling objects, communicating, and frequent use of near vision.
