The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences is a large, interdisciplinary school within the Faculty of Science at the University of New South Wales with more than 170 academic, research and professional staff. The school leads and collaborates across multiple centres and institutes and contributes to national ocean modelling initiatives and the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) facilities in NSW.

The School covers Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physical Geography, Climate Science, Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, Marine Science and Oceanography.

Centre and institute affiliations include the Centre for Marine Science and Innovation, ARC Centre of Excellence for Our Future Oceans, Centre for Ecosystem Science, Climate Change Research Centre, Evolution and Ecology Research Centre, and Earth and Sustainability Science Research Centre. Academic staff are members of multiple UNSW institutes and initiatives.

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Level

B) in Marine Sciences. The purpose is to conduct high-quality research, teaching and supervision in fisheries research and/or biological oceanography with links to policy and environmental management. Opportunities exist to engage with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Our Future Oceans. We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Fisheries science including wild fisheries and aquaculture
• Biological oceanography and pelagic ecosystems, including ichthyoplankton and zooplankton
• Interactions across biological and physical marine systems
• Marine biogeochemistry and nutrient cycling
• Current environmental threats and solutions for improved marine management
• Quantitative sciences for decision making and management
• Translating marine science to policy
• Public communication of scientific research to increase impact

• Level B salary range: $127k – $150k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
• Continuing appointment
• Full-time (35 hours per week)

• Conduct high-quality research in fisheries and/or biological oceanography independently and in teams
• Publish in highly ranked journals and provide reports to funding bodies
• Maintain and grow research funding from external sources including national grants and contracts
• Supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students
• Teach and coordinate undergraduate units, including use of digital education platforms
• Contribute to curriculum and course development within the School
• Contribute to relevant research centres and groups
• Engage in public communication of research results and implications
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Participate in conferences and workshops relevant to the disciplinary area
• Contribute to administration and leadership as appropriate for the level
• Align with UNSW values and Code of Conduct; support Equity, Diversity, Inclusiveness and Sustainability objectives
• Comply with health and safety policies and procedures

• A PhD in fisheries and/or biological oceanography or related sciences
• Demonstrated excellence in research
• Strong publication record in top-tier journals and conference presentations
• Ability to secure research funding from competitive grants and/or contracts
• Capacity to build and lead a research team and attract HDR students
• Ability to establish collaborations with external agencies to impact policy and practice
• Ability to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate levels, including digital delivery
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
• Commitment to the collaborative and inclusive culture of the School
• Understanding of UNSW aims, values, and policies
• Ability to implement UNSW health and safety policies
