Position: Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Chicago, Illinois
Make an impact in the classroom as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter supporting students for both Extended School Year (ESY) and Regular School Year (NSY) programs. This contract opportunity places you in a dynamic, on-site school environment near Chicago, IL, where your expertise benefits students with hearing needs throughout the academic year and summer session.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience, preferably in educational settings
  • Certification or licensing that meets local requirements for school-based sign language interpreters
  • Previous experience supporting students with hearing impairments in classroom and small-group settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively with special education staff, teachers, and families
  • Strong organizational skills to manage daily schedules and required documentation
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver on-site ASL interpreting services during ESY (June 15, 2026 - July 24, 2026, Monday-Friday) for full instructional days
  • Provide interpreter support for the regular school year, facilitating communication between students, teachers, and peers for 330 minutes each day
  • Offer direct hearing itinerant services (100 minutes per week) and consultative support (180 minutes per month NSY; 75 minutes per month ESY)
  • Foster a supportive, accessible environment to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold all district and professional ethics standards
