ACCOUNTABLE TO:
Associate Director of Museum Education

Position Summary

In collaboration with the Education and Engagement Specialist and the Teacher and Student Programs Coordinator, the Lilly Endowment Dia De Muertos Teaching Artist Associate is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating on‑site museum educational, bilingual programming for teachers, students, parents, families, and community members based on the museum’s exhibitions, art collection, and Día de Muertos.

Scope

The position is a 3 year contractual commitment beginning July 2026 and ending December 31, 2028.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, promote, and implement various educational and exhibition‑related art programs for students, teachers, children, families, and the general public related to Día de Muertos.
  • Create bilingual educational resources, including worksheets, videos, audios, and digital forms.
  • Implement on‑site and online classes, workshops, and lectures with museum resources.
  • Attend the Family Advisory Group, Educator Advisory Group, and Disability Community Advisory Group to create and implement arts‑integrated curricular resources and workshops.
  • Present tours about Mexican art and culture to groups of all ages.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze program data, including participant registration, attendance, photo and video documentation, and program evaluation.
  • Assist with other museum educational programming and team members.
  • Develop and foster relationships with other museum departments, outside museums, organizations, educators, and community partners to enhance programming.
  • Participate in professional development and program‑related training activities provided by The National Museum of Mexican Art.
  • Complete related duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Associate Director of Museum Education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Visual Arts, Art Education, Art Therapy, and/or Museum Education preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in arts education, youth education, or community programming at an art institution, community art center, or youth‑serving organization.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Artist or Art Educator preferred.
  • Knowledge and interest in all aspects of the Mexican and Mexican‑American art experience, contemporary art practices, and art education practices.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple and varied project timelines.
  • Capacity to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • In‑person hours, including evenings and weekends, are required.
Environmental Demands
  • Must be able to plan, prioritize, organize, and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously and independently.
  • This is an on‑site position that requires regular physical presence at the museum.
  • Employee must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time and carry, lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to manually operate business machinery.
  • Travel within the U.S. and to Mexico with advance notice may be required.
  • There is minimal environmental exposure.
