About the Position
The New School Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is a New York State Education Department–funded initiative designed to provide financial, academic, and socio‑emotional support to economically and educationally disadvantaged undergraduate students. The HEOP office is housed under the Office of Equity and Belonging and coordinates, evaluates, and administers academic and operational activities to foster student growth and success.
Responsibilities- Support the HEOP summer program with event preparation, including transporting materials, decorating and arranging spaces, and event breakdown/clean‑up.
- Host weekly check‑ins with a designated cohort of summer program participants.
- Attend summer program classes with the cohort to take attendance and monitor class participation.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing communication with faculty, tutors, and the HEOP Manager.
- Provide in‑class assistance to assigned instructors.
- Serve as liaison between instructors, students, and EOP office staff.
- Oversee study hours for the summer program.
- Report disruptive in‑class behavior immediately to the HEOP Manager.
- Refer ongoing academic issues to the HEOP Manager.
- Perform administrative duties related to the functional operation of the program.
- Assist in the assessment of the EOP by administering surveys to students and completing assessment tools to evaluate learning outcomes.
- Passionate about access and opportunity programs.
- Open‑minded, culturally competent, takes initiative, works independently and collaboratively, strong work ethic, meets deadlines promptly, communicates clearly, and asks for help when needed.
- Uses good judgment, thinks critically and thoughtfully.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to assist students with the development of their study skills.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, e.g., IG, Facebook.
- Experience researching, brainstorming, ideating, and creating programming and marketing materials.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 35lb.
- Available to work the entire summer program (July1–August8) for 28hours per week.
- Available to attend in‑person training on July1 and July
2.
On‑Campus Position – Employees are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled hours.
Hourly Rate: $18 per hour.
