Responsibilities
- Instructional planning, including lesson plans and preparation for each student, in accordance with CPS policies, Illinois Learning Standards, and state/federal law.
- Administer tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language abilities.
- Assess student progress, expectations, and goals in the bilingual program, developing and delivering lesson plans that help limited English proficient students overcome barriers.
- Establish positive learning expectations, evaluate progress, and maintain accurate records.
- Implement instructional methods, apply contemporary learning theory, use available instructional materials, and participate in developing new teaching techniques.
- Display knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
- Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti‑vandalism and discipline programs per CPS Uniform Discipline Code.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts, encourage self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
- Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, or ancillary personnel, communicate academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
- Participate in in‑service and professional staff meetings, may coordinate and attend field trips, and work in extracurricular and after‑school activities.
- Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching license(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Possess an Illinois State Board of Education educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.
- Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles, classroom and behavior management, and ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
- Ability to cooperate with faculty and administration to implement an articulated program of instruction and work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and sound professional judgment.
- Physical ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally, reach frequently, and perform routine visual acuity tasks.
