The Department of Surgery and Specialty Medicine at Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) seeks a dynamic and experienced physician educator to serve as founding faculty in Emergency Medicine. This part‑time (0.60
FTE) position is open to candidates at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The anticipated start date is June
12026.
- Provide visionary leadership for Emergency Medicine within IllinoisCOM.
- Lead curriculum development and assessment for Emergency Medicine clinical rotations and assist in preclinical courses.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty members within the department.
- Maintain partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
- Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative, interdisciplinary Emergency Medicine curriculum.
- Teach medical students using evidence‑based instructional methods, including case‑based and small‑group learning.
- Support student coaching, mentoring, and professional development in clinical and academic settings.
- Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate Emergency Medicine content across the curriculum.
- Represent the College in professional organizations and events.
- Assist with student recruitment and community outreach efforts.
- Participate in college and university committees.
- Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and service‑learning programs.
- Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education.
- Engage in clinical practice (strongly encouraged).
- Promote a culture of research and scholarship; support faculty and student research; seek external funding opportunities; ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities.
- DO or MD degree with board certification in a related specialty.
- At least five (5) years of experience in medical education, residency training, or faculty leadership.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional education and integration of osteopathic principles in training.
- At least five (5) years of clinical practice experience.
- Experience as a department chair, program director, or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program.
- Strong background in educational innovation, simulation‑based training, and competency‑based assessment.
- Established record of research and scholarly activity in primary care or medical education.
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education.
- Salary range: $105,000 – $165,000 per year, commensurate with experience and academic rank.

Chair of Surgery and Specialty Medicine. - Employment type:
