The Communications, Media Arts & Theatre Department is seeking candidates for a full-time, 9‑month, tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Theatre. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate theatre and speech courses, including dual‑enrollment offerings; directing productions for CSU Theatre; and maintaining an active research agenda while participating in department, college, and university service in accordance with the Departmental Application of Criteria.

Faculty members are expected to teach 18 to 24 credits per year; develop syllabi and teaching materials related to the courses taught; and collaborate with other faculty in the department on the development of new courses and/or degree programs. In addition, faculty advise students, participate in professional development activities, and engage in assessment activities.
ResearchFaculty members are expected to engage in research and/or creative activity germane to an academic discipline, which results in submissions to peer‑reviewed publications; receipt of externally awarded grants; presentations at academic and professional conferences; or engagement in creative pursuits within the creative, performing, or theatre arts.
ServiceFaculty members are expected to serve on committees, programs, and/or special task forces at the department, college, university, professional, and community levels and to assume leadership roles over time as they increase in rank. These activities are not separately compensated and are related to the employee’s assigned responsibilities and to the university.
Required EducationA PhD or MFA in Theatre, Performance Studies, or a closely related field from an accredited university at the time of application is required. Must also meet tenure and/or rank requirements from a discipline within the unit as defined by the collective bargaining unit.
Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of prior teaching experience at a four‑year college or university and professional theatre experience, including onscreen performance. A strong record of creative activity in the discipline or scholarly research is required. Experience teaching dual‑enrollment classes is also required.
Preferred QualificationsExperience using modern teaching approaches that incorporate active learning and technology is preferred. Demonstrated success in fostering an inclusive learning environment and supporting students from diverse populations is also preferred.
