Job OverviewUnder the supervision of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities- Instructional planning: write lesson plans and prepare materials in accordance with instructional program objectives, establish positive learning expectation standards, evaluate pupils’ progress, and maintain accurate records of achievements.
- Implement instructional methods using contemporary learning theory and teaching methodology, draw from instructional materials, develop and implement new teaching techniques, and create bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils’ current work.
- Exhibit and apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional levels.
- Participate in programs to improve student attendance and anti‑vandalism initiatives.
- Establish and maintain classroom and school conduct rules, maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts, encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept.
- Ensure fairness in teacher‑pupil relationships, demonstrate understanding and respect for students, and initiate appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel.
- Communicate with parents or guardians and counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
- Participate in in‑service meetings, professional staff meetings, and utilize materials provided.
- Coordinate and attend class field trips, work in extracurricular and after‑school activities, and utilize community resources.
- Successful completion of all student‑teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations, properly endorsed for this position).
- Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles and practices, and classroom and behavior management techniques.
- Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs; cooperate with faculty and administration to develop an articulated instructional program; work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives; understand students’ physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns.
- Skill in applying contemporary teaching principles and practices, good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and exercising sound professional judgment.
Light work: occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds, frequent reaching, handling objects, constant talking and hearing, use of near visual acuity, and occasional visual requirements. Ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle and finger objects occasionally, talk and hear constantly, frequent use of near visual acuity, and occasional use of visual acuity.
