Position Overview
Malcolm X College is seeking a Full Time Faculty for the Medical Assistant Department. The mission of Malcolm X College is to provide accessible liberal arts and health-focused education that fosters personal and professional achievement. Accordingly, students will be evaluated on both their knowledge and specific skills.
Reporting to an assigned Academic Dean, the Full‑time Faculty position conducts formal classes and meets all lab objectives when applicable for assigned courses. The faculty member teaches and evaluates students, prepares and revises course syllabi and other educational materials, and contributes to the overall operation of the College, supporting its mission and philosophical commitment to the community college environment.
Essential Duties- Prepare syllabi that include student learning objectives and outcomes.
- Teach on‑campus classes in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
- Engage, inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
- Develop reciprocity and cooperation among students; encourage active learning.
- Employ a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, and field trips to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize outcomes.
- Work individually with students who may need specific assistance in reaching their academic, personal, and career goals; model respect for all students and convey confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Provide regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluate and document student performance using established methods and criteria and record course grades promptly.
- Develop and design an assessment program that ensures students’ application and use of concepts, techniques, and innovations learned both in the classroom and through external coursework.
- Stay abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology.
- Participate in professional development activities aimed at enhancing the talents of teaching.
- Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings and contribute to campus and District committees.
- Adhere to CCC’s student‑centered philosophy; foster student involvement and commitment.
- Have the ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- M.D. or Registered Medical Assistant through American Medical Technologist (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) must have three years of medical assisting experience or a BSN with three years of current ambulatory experience.
- Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students.
- Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
- Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and other relevant experience is highly considered.
- Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
