Position Summary

Long-Term Special Education Substitute Teacher – Glenbard West (Job ). This temporary licensed staff position supports learning during a teacher’s extended absence. The term is 08/10/2026 to 09/21/2026 (anticipated). The rate is $300 per 7.25‑hour day, inclusive of grading and plan/prep/grade/holidays. Employer TRS contribution benefits may apply.

    Professional Educator License (registered in DuPage County) with endorsement for the identified subject area.
Responsibilities
  • Instruct five classes plus plan/prep and resource materials.
  • Teach English 2 and English 2i, Career Education 1 and 2.
  • Instruct students based on subject‑ or level‑specific curriculum; grade assignments and maintain attendance.
  • Supplement lesson plans using interactive technology as appropriate.
  • Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours.
  • Meet with the Department Chair regularly and seek mentorship from other departmental staff.
  • Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor in accordance with district policies on Sexual Harassment, Equal Educational Opportunity, Ethics, Use of Electronic Media, and other applicable policies.
  • Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and/or school‑sponsored professional development as needed.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Professional educator’s license in the subject area identified.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to supporting all students’ ability to learn.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Honors or AP experience – preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys, and electronic media.
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from individuals and groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in written form.
  • Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and manage variable situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to maintain current job skills, especially in technology‑related activities.
  • Ability to perform essential duties with awareness of school district requirements and Board policy.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regular requirement to sit, talk or hear.
  • Frequent requirement to stand, walk, operate duplicate machines and computer equipment; reach with hands and arms; repeat actions such as typing.
  • Vision: close vision and ability to adjust focus; ability to withstand long‑term use of video display terminals.
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Noise level moderate.
  • Pace: fast.
  • Work usually at one site; occasional meetings, conferences, workshops, and events at other sites.
