Personalized Learning Coordinator
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child—across every school and neighborhood—has access to a world‑class learning experience from birth, ultimately graduating from high school college‑ and career‑ready. Personalized Learning (PL) is a top educational priority for CPS; the Department of Advanced Learning & Specialty Programs is charged with enacting this vision and offering the resources and structures to support schools adopting this innovative model.
Job DescriptionThe School‑Based Personalized Learning Coordinator (PLC) will support the Department of Advanced Learning & Specialty Programs in instructional development, change management, and school‑level continuous improvement to drive success for all students. Coordinators are expected to be instructional experts with proven content expertise in personalized learning in at least one core subject (literacy, mathematics, science) and/or with priority student groups (diverse learners, English language learners).
The Coordinator will plan and take the steps necessary to continually improve and expand personalized learning within the school, thereby enriching the lives of more students in Chicago Public Schools.
- Implement a strategic action plan and continuous improvement strategies founded in the CPS Framework for Personalized Learning to positively impact student‑based outcomes in the assigned school, working with classroom teachers, Instructional Leadership Teams, administrators, and professional development providers.
- Build the day‑to‑day instructional capacity of classroom teachers and school administrators to deliver core district priorities for personalized learning, including Common Core State Standards, Multi‑Tiered System of Supports, K‑2 foundational literacy, and college and career readiness.
- Provide differentiated instructional support by modeling effective, research‑based practices in personalized learning; collaborate with grade‑level teams to drive data‑informed instructional planning; provide professional learning and coaching to staff; and partner with leadership teams to actualize CCSS implementation through personalized learning instructional strategies school‑wide.
- Serve on the school‑based PL Leadership Team, the Instructional Leadership Team, and the CIWP Team to integrate personalized learning throughout the school and core curriculum. Consult and collaborate with principals, assistant principals, and other team members to develop data‑informed strategies that support CIWP development and implementation—including curriculum development, professional development plans, direct support to classroom teachers, student outcome progress monitoring, and intervention plans.
Type of Education Required
:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership preferred.
Certification
:
Valid standard teaching certificate (Type 03, Type 09, or Type 10) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education with appropriate grade‑level and content endorsements (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Early Childhood, Bilingual, or Special Education). Type 75 Certificate (or equivalent from outside Illinois) preferred.
Type of Experience and Number of Years
:
- Minimum of 4 years of classroom teaching experience, with demonstrated experience implementing personalized learning strategies required. Additional experience delivering problem/project‑based learning preferred.
- 2 years of experience working with adult learners, including coaching, and designing and facilitating professional development for classroom teachers and school leaders (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:
- Experience and knowledge of personalized learning and/or competency‑based progression.
- Ability to use multiple data sources to set measurable goals and strategically plan to complete them.
- Ability to define problems, analyze data, and develop action plans as part of a continuous improvement cycle.
