School Description

Latino Youth High School (LYHS) is a small charter school located in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, serving opportunity youth ages 16–21 who left traditional school and chose to come back for their diploma. We teach through relationships and a competency-based model — meeting students where they are and walking them all the way to graduation day.

The teacher will plan and deliver engaging high school science lessons aligned with curriculum standards, including areas such as biology, environmental science, or health. Daily responsibilities include developing and adapting lesson plans, preparing instructional materials, assessing student learning, and providing individual and small-group support. The teacher will maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that reflects the cultural and linguistic diversity of students and promotes social-emotional well-being.

Additional duties include collaborating with colleagues and support staff, communicating regularly with caregivers, participating in professional development, and supporting school initiatives that align with LYHS's mission.

  • Excellent Communication skills for interacting effectively with students, caregivers, and colleagues.
  • Relevant teaching license or five (5) years experience in the field and ability to pass ISBE content area test.

  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience working with diverse, multilingual, and economically disadvantaged student populations is highly valued.
