Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships with P-12 schools, districts, and community organizations to support the Division's educator preparation programs.
  • Represent the University at local, regional, and state meetings related to clinical practice, accreditation, and educator preparation.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and community partners to identify placement opportunities and support hiring pipelines for candidates.
  • Facilitate and maintain partnership agreements, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), and placement contracts with partner schools and districts.
  • Visit partner schools regularly to maintain relationships and monitor placement quality.
  • Collaborate with community-based programs like Big Shoulders, the Archdiocese of Chicago Archdiocese, and other educational/community agencies.
Clinical and Field Experience Leadership
  • Coordinate and oversee all field experiences, clinical practice placements, practicums, residencies, and student teaching assignments across educator preparation programs.
  • Ensure clinical experiences provide appropriate depth, breadth, diversity, duration, and coherence to support candidate growth and impact on P-12 student learning.
  • Recruit, assign, supervise, support, and evaluate university supervisors/coordinators and mentor/cooperating teachers.
  • Design and implement policies, procedures, handbooks, orientation sessions, and evaluation processes related to clinical practice and field experiences.
  • Maintain regular communication with candidates, mentor teachers, supervisors, and school administrators throughout placement experiences.
  • Develop remediation plans and resolve placement or performance concerns as needed.
  • Organize student teaching orientations, informational sessions, and recognition/celebration events.
  • Collaborate with faculty and school partners to review assessment data and continuously improve clinical preparation programs.
  • Recommend improvements to field and clinical experience requirements, policies, and processes.
  • Maintain databases and records related to field experiences, mentor teacher credentials, placements, evaluations, and program outcomes.
  • Facilitate orientations (standalone or through courses) each semester to provide candidates with instruction and support on criminal background checks, VIRTUS training, and expectations for SXU students in the field.
  • Meet with and/or communicate regularly with all Education Division candidates to facilitate application requirements and processes for teacher education programs.
  • Facilitate Chicago Public School registration and background check processes for all candidates applying to a teacher education program.
  • Coordinate with Accurate Biometrics to conduct fingerprinting on campus for all candidates applying for a teacher education program.
  • Maintain representation/membership in relevant professional organizations and groups (e.g., Chicago Area Directors of Student Teaching [CADST]).
Alternative Licensure and Residency Programs
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of the Alternative Licensure residency candidates.
  • Recruit partner schools interested in hiring residency and alternative licensure candidates.
  • Coordinate residency placements and share employment opportunities with residency candidates.
  • Collaborate with faculty, university coordinators, and residency site personnel to monitor candidate progress and provide ongoing support during residency experiences.
  • Review and maintain candidate assessment tools aligned with professional teaching standards and frameworks.
Data, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement
  • Implement performance-based assessments and evaluation measures across field and clinical experiences.
  • Collect, analyze, and share program data with faculty and school partners to support continuous improvement efforts.
