Job DescriptionAbout the Campus: The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006 and educates students in grades 6-12. Its mission is to assist students in developing habits of mind, work, and heart; contribute to the community; and improve teaching and learning through professional development.
Position Summary: This position will support specialized instruction and case management for students with disabilities in the middle and high school levels. The role supports special and general education teachers and support staff in identifying, developing, and implementing curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies to improve learning outcomes for students with disabilities. The position requires a professional who works independently and exercises professional discretion under the general supervision of the Campus Director and partnership with the UCCS Network Director of Special Education.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Create and distribute a calendar of all annual reviews and evaluations to comply with IDEA timelines, and provide updates as needed.
- Chair and coordinate all IEPs and 504 plans.
- Ensure parents and students receive all meeting paperwork and understand the IEP and 504.
- Monitor and ensure implementation of all IEP services, accommodations, and progress monitoring.
- Obtain IEPs and special education files for newly enrolled students and coordinate services for new students.
- Ensure all IEPs are relevant and compliant with Federal and State law.
- Coach staff on how to interpret and write quality Individualized Education Plans.
- Meet regularly with the School Director and the UCCS Network Director of Special Education to collaborate and continuously improve the special education program.
- Meet regularly with special education teachers, monitor IEP work, and provide feedback on IEPs.
- Develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities that promote achievement for diverse learners.
- Design professional development for administrators, teachers, and support staff in curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, and working with students with challenging behavior.
- Collaborate with special and general education teachers to plan for student learning outcomes based on assessed needs and data, support learning goals, and assess progress.
- Advise special education teachers on best practices in collaboration and co‑teaching methods.
- Provide consultation to school staff working with diverse learners in instruction, assessment, curriculum, communication, behavior, organization, visual systems, self‑management, sensory needs, social skills, physical environment design, and remote learning strategies.
- Actively participate as an advisor, resource specialist, and facilitator in faculty, grade‑level, department, and/or professional learning community meetings.
- Provide coaching support to special education teachers and paraprofessionals through observations, feedback, and guidance.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
- Commitment to the success and achievement of all students, especially diverse learners.
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS I endorsement.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Case Manager.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Special Education Teacher.
- Substantial experience serving in an urban teaching environment (preferred).
- Experience successfully coaching teachers to improve instructional practice.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws governing special education and related services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
- Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
Salary Range: $85,000.00 – $ per year.
