Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
Essential FunctionsResponsible for instructional planning, including providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, establishing positive learning expectation standards, evaluating pupils' progress, and maintaining accurate records of achievements; implements instructional methods, applying contemporary learning theory, teaching methodology, and instructional materials; participates in development and implementation of new teaching techniques, provides bulletin board areas reflecting pupils' work;
exhibits knowledge of curriculum content; participates in programs to improve attendance and anti‑vandalism; establishes and maintains classroom rules; maintains attendance records and seating charts; encourages growth in self‑discipline; ensures fairness and respect; initiates conferences with parents and guardians; communicates academic progress; participates in meetings; coordinates field trips; works in extracurriculars; uses community resources.
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework needed to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
License Requirements:
Teachers must possess at least one valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education—Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)—properly endorsed for this position.
Knowledge, Abilities, and
Skills:
Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification, contemporary teaching principles, classroom and behavior management techniques; ability to modify instruction to meet student needs; cooperate with faculty and administration; work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community; understand students’ physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns; skill in applying teaching principles, good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, exercising sound judgment.

Exerting up to twenty pounds occasionally, up to ten pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly; ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle objects occasionally, talk and hear constantly, frequent use of near visual acuity; occasional visual acuity use.
