Purpose:
The Building Substitute Teacher will support the school district by filling daily substitute positions and providing classroom management, instruction, and support for students.
Terms of Employment:
- Pay Rate: $22.89 / hour
- Calendar:
Based on the 177 Day / School-Year Employee - Daily
Schedule:
7:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with a 45‑minute duty‑free lunch - Benefits:
Eligible for medical benefits, paid sick leave, and paid personal business leave. TRS participation is required.
The contract is annual. At the end of each school year, the Building Substitute Teacher will return to the district substitute teaching list. Each summer the district determines the need for Building Substitute Teachers and posts positions accordingly.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Illinois Professional Educator's License (preferred)
- Illinois Substitute Teaching License (required)
Experience working with high school students is preferred.
Ability to work closely with other staff members.
Ability to communicate professionally with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Perform all responsibilities in a professional manner consistent with district policy and practices.
- Substitute teach 9‑12 grade students in various subjects as assigned.
- Work with individuals, small groups, or the entire class to support teaching of content.
- Report to the Substitute Teacher Clerk each morning to be assigned a daily schedule.
- Adapt assigned daily schedule to building needs.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in lesson plans, units, or projects assigned.
- Take attendance in accordance with district and school procedures.
- Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of students at all times.
- Understand and follow all district and school emergency procedures.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity and interests of the students.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (including ability to stoop, bend, and reach as needed).
- Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.
