The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It is committed to helping students develop the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community, contribute to the community through research, service, and leadership, and improve teaching and learning by being a professional development site.
Position Summary:
Chemistry teaching position responsible for preparing students, regardless of tested ability, for success in college. Excellent teacher with proven experience enabling urban students to meet high expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and deliver engaging curriculum‑aligned lessons using diverse, research‑based teaching strategies.
- Analyze and use formative assessment data to improve instruction and design assessments using the University of Chicago Charter School learning standards.
- Work with students individually to address learning gaps, special needs, or behavioral challenges.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic development.
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment for all students.
- Enable students to contribute to the community through the creation of new knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement.
- At least 2 years of urban teaching experience.
- Previous experience working with children from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven program planning and development experience.
- Reflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback and coaching.
- Commitment to the success and achievement of all students.
- Proven commitment to curriculum and assessment planning and professional development.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
- Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
- Collaborative, collegial, goal‑oriented, mission‑driven, accountable, responsible, self‑managed, and self‑motivated.

$60,000 – $80,000 per year, commensurate with years of experience and education.
