Primary Objective

Reporting to the Provost & Chief Academic Officer, the Deputy Provost provides leadership for educational quality and strategy at City Colleges of Chicago. Positioned within Academic Affairs, the Deputy Provost drives alignment across academic, workforce, and operational functions to advance organizational effectiveness.

As a leader within Academic Affairs, the Deputy Provost serves as a key advisor to the Provost, representing and serving as the Provost’s designee in their absence and provides visionary and strategic leadership in support of CCC’s core educational mission. This role contributes to decision-making related to budget, personnel, and operations affecting Academic Affairs. Performs other duties as required.

Essential Duties
  • Leads development and continuous improvement of academic pathways, including alignment with employer needs, workforce competencies, and labor market demand.
  • Oversees employer engagement processes and ensures meaningful integration of industry input into curriculum design and program outcomes.
  • Guides development, approval, and launch of new programs and pathways, including ICCB submissions and implementation planning.
  • Coordinates cross-functional collaboration among Academic Affairs, Workforce Development, Marketing, Compliance, and other stakeholders to operationalize new programs and academic initiatives at scale.
  • Contributes to development of grant proposals and strategic concept papers aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for faculty credentialing standards, program review processes, and compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Reviews and contributes to Board of Trustees reports, including recommendations related to academic program updates, faculty-related actions, and procurement-related items.
  • Ensures academic initiatives align with board timelines, approvals, and governance processes.
  • Plans and leads district wide convenings (e.g., Centers of Excellence, employer engagement sessions, academic leadership forums) to align priorities and share best practices.
  • Communicates expectations, clarifies processes, and resolves systemwide issues with faculty, administrators, and external partners.
  • Serves as a key advisor to the Provost on emerging academic, operational, and strategic issues, including:
    • Identifying risks and opportunities
    • Recommending organizational responses
    • Representing Academic Affairs in cross-functional leadership conversations
    • Frequently represents the Provost in meetings, committees, and external engagements.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required;
    Doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible leadership or administrative experience in higher education. Community college leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in faculty affairs, academic administration, and implementation of academic policies and processes.
  • Experience evaluating academic program and course effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing student learning outcomes and using data to support continuous improvement and institutional decision-making.
  • Experience aligning educational programs with workforce and industry partners.
  • Experience developing partnerships, including articulation agreements and collaborative academic initiatives.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience managing professional and administrative staff.
  • Knowledge of higher education trends, accreditation and academic quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
