JK Associate Teacher/BZ Beyond After School Assistant
Bernard Zell, on the north side of Chicago, seeks a thoughtful, detail-oriented, mature, and responsible individual to fulfill the role of JK Associate Teacher/BZ Beyond After School Assistant. This relationship provides the associate teacher with hands-on experiences in teaching, curriculum planning, classroom management, documentation, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be exceptionally collaborative and collegial, and share a great enthusiasm for children and their learning.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesJK Associate Role
- Assist in teaching, guiding, inspiring, and nurturing children in the early childhood program.
- Assist in differentiating instruction for a wide range of students' abilities and interests.
- Support the Lead Teacher(s) in the documentation of student learning and growth throughout the school year.
- Assist with the preparation and/or organization of teaching materials.
- Collaborate with Lead Teacher, Specials Teachers, and other Associate Teachers.
- Supervise students throughout the day.
- Speak professionally and respectfully with parents and caregivers.
After School Assistant Role
- Plan and facilitate explorations/activities both in the classroom and outside for after-school care.
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of a group of children ages 4-12.
- Communicate regularly with the BZ Beyond Lead.
- Set-up and clean-up of BZ Beyond classrooms.
- Work collectively with other BZ Beyond staff members.
- College degree; degree in education preferred.
- Experience working with children.
- Energy and the desire to learn and explore with teachers and children.
- Ability to embrace technology.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to support and extend the objectives of the curriculum.
- Awareness of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Appreciation of a diverse, pluralistic Jewish community.
- Comfort being part of a professional learning community.
- Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and in case of emergency, a 40-pound child.
- Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, or crawl.
Bernard Zell offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and a supportive workplace culture. The salary range for this position is $32,950 - $42,253.
