Academic Advisor, College of Education
Provides academic advising to undergraduate teacher candidates in the College of Education as needed for registration, orientation, course scheduling, and degree progression towards graduation requirements. Serves as the primary resource, mentor, and consultant for COE undergraduates teacher candidates regarding all aspects of their educational development, career planning, and personal growth. Monitors and assists in guiding COE undergraduate teacher candidates progress, provides referrals to other university departments for services, and engages students as necessary to meet their individual needs.
Prepare and facilitate new student orientation and provides students with needed academic support via individualized academic plans, when necessary. Provides guidance to students regarding other subsidiary programs (e.g., admissions requirements, international programs, study abroad, or veteran's programs) offered by both university and external sources and performs associated outreach functions to internal and external constituencies. Ensures that students are provided information and accessibility regarding university resources and programs that will assist them in being successful during their college education/experience.
Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of the College of
Education:
Provides academic program-specific advisement to traditional, transfer, and non-traditional (adult) undergraduate teacher candidates in the College of Education regarding course requirements, transfer articulation, and academic progress; assists undergraduate teacher candidates with course selection and sequencing based on existing plans of study; determines eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree completion; and communicates academic progress and findings to university administration to ensure compliance with financial aid and athletic requirements.
Develops individual student action plan to achieve academic goals, career objectives, and personal growth; evaluates transcripts to determine student eligibility and progress; assists students with academic petitions and graduation applications; maintains and manages student academic files in accordance with recognized protocols; follows rules and regulations applicable for FERPA, Title IX, etc. compliance. Effectively uses institutional technological systems such as Banner, CAPP, Early Alert Warning Systems, and other Web based software, etc.
Provides referral services for students to appropriate campus resources for assistance, study skills, tutoring, counseling, etc. Provides academic program-specific advisement to students regarding admissions policies/procedures and general academic program requirements; describes courses; and disseminates information regarding registration procedures. Provides information and/or advises students on financial assistance, student work programs, and/or scholarships available in the university; prepares and leads the facilitation of new student orientation.
Prepares and produces statistical reports and other formal records in accordance with applicable laws and procedures; reviews and recommends record management and other academic processing procedures. Attends all academic advisor training workshops as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Additional education or other formal training in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required. Demonstrated work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, additional education, training, and/or work experience in a distinct academic discipline or area of specialization may be designated by the Employer. Such designations must be directly linked to the specific position description and requirements.
