Full Time English/ESL Teacher Grades 6-12
Currently hiring a full-time English/ESL endorsed teacher to work at Chicago Math and Science Academy. The purpose of the bilingual teacher is to provide academic instructional support to English learners. S/he will develop and deliver lesson plans to groups and individual students utilizing academic development language standards.
Essential job functions include instructing English learners for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills, developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines, adapting classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans, obtaining training for and assisting with the administration of language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language proficiency, maintaining organized records of documentation regarding student achievement in core courses, collaborating with English learners coordinator and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning, interpreting student performance data and implementing appropriate support structures, and communicating and conferring effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum qualifications include valid Illinois teaching certification, PEL ESL certification k-12 ELA endorsement 6-12, bachelor's degree, ability to make technically correct translations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English with speed and accuracy, and knowledge of evidence-based language acquisition strategies.
Pay and benefits details for teaching positions include a starting salary of $52,000 for gen ed teachers, $54,000 for SPED teachers, education plus $1,000 for master's degree, $2,000 for doctorate degree, experience plus $1,000/yr up to 10 years (K-12 prof teaching), additional discretionary $2,000 available for hard-to-fill positions:
Math, Science, Technology, SPED, Spanish, ESL/Bilingual Education, Dual Credit, 8 workdays of annual paid time off as sick & personal days, contribution to your CTPF Retirement Plan (7% paid by employer), medical and dental insurance (80% of your monthly premiums will be paid by the employer), life insurance (100% paid by the employer), long term disability insurance (100% paid by the employer), 75% tuition reimbursement and up to $3000/year (subject to budget availability), up to $2,000 performance-based compensation based on professional performance and student growth.
