Assistant Professor of Accounting
The College of Business, Chicago State University, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Accounting beginning in August 2026. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The candidate should enjoy teaching and is expected to bring innovative pedagogy to the classroom; it is also expected the candidate will produce meaningful intellectual contributions, as well as contribute to a collegial academic environment.
Teaching responsibilities will include courses within the undergraduate Finance curriculum such as Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Federal Income Tax, and Auditing.
Minimum qualifications include earned terminal degree (PhD, DBA) in Accounting, or closely-related field, by an institution accredited by ACBSP or AACSB by August 2026 (ABD's close to completion will be considered). Applications must show promise of excellence in teaching and research.
Primary duties include teaching and related activities assigned during a 9- or 12-month year. It is also expected that each faculty member engages in research and service activities. Teaching:
Faculty members are expected to teach 6 to 8 courses per year; develop syllabi, teaching materials related to courses taught; and collaborate with other faculty in the development of new courses and/or programs. In addition, faculty engage in assessment activities related to accreditation and program evaluation, as well as participate in professional development activities. Research:
Faculty members are expected to engage in research which results in submissions in refereed, peer-reviewed, professional and/or general readership publications; submit and receive externally awarded grants; and make presentations at academic and professional conferences. Service:
Faculty members are expected to serve on committees, programs, and/or special task forces at the department, college, university, professional and community levels; assume leadership roles over time and as they increase in rank. A special focus on student-related service is encouraged. These activities are not for compensation, nevertheless have a relationship to the faculty member's assigned responsibilities and to the university.
All faculty positions are governed by the tenets of a collective bargaining agreement. Faculty are hired, evaluated, retained, promoted, and tenured on the basis of conditions covered in the union contract.
Academic and/or professional experience is desired in one or more of the following focus areas:
Accounting Information Systems and/or Tools, Auditing, Financial Management, Forensic Accounting and/or Fraud Analysis, and/or Taxation. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure is preferred, but not required.
