ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – CHEMISTRY
WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE, a City College of Chicago, seeks part‑time faculty to teach Chemistry courses. Adjunct faculty teach, evaluate students, and prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials.
Adjunct faculty must have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage them in critical thinking and problem‑solving.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps them problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
- Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student‑centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
- Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and outcomes.
- Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
- Commits to engaging and improving behaviors that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging among students.
- Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in the discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflects on and refines their craft.
- Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
- Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
- Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
- M.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Or a master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in chemistry.
- Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
- Experience with a diverse, multi‑lingual student population desired; commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
- Disposition toward developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
- Knowledge of Brightspace or a similar learning management system preferred.
- Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online‑teaching certification preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Seeking candidate(s) to teach face‑to‑face course(s).
- Salary: $800 - $837 - $943 per contact hour based on degree.
- Rate paid in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
