Position Summary:

The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University seeks a part-time instructor of directing to teach a brief summer class to graduate students in the Master of Arts in Theatre Directing program. This 1.5 credit hour module is part of a broader sequence of directing classes and consists of nine sessions delivered to approximately 18 students. The class addresses issues, strategies and practical techniques for early-career directors in rehearsing and staging contemporary plays.

The instructor will craft an effective lesson plan with support from the department.

Dates:
June 29, 30 & July 2;
July 6, 7 & 9

Class meeting times:
Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:45–5:45 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30–10:45 a.m.

Salary: $1,991 for nine class sessions

Job Duties
  • Online delivery of course material, including creating assignments and evaluating students’ work.
  • Clear and timely communication.
  • Timely submission of all grades.
  • Consistent usage of department email address.
  • Submission of a syllabus (university-mandated template) documenting all class policies, expectations, procedures, and grading criteria.
Qualifications

Required:

MFA in Directing, Acting, or equivalent professional experience; 1–2 years of experience;
Master’s Degree.

Preferred:
Substantial professional or university directing experience; university/college-level teaching experience; excellent interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

Normal climate-controlled office environment with occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing or pulling (typically less than 10 pounds). Primarily sedentary.
