Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and energetic Head Start Assistant Teacher to join our team! You will be responsible for encouraging children’s intellectual, psychological, and physical growth. The ideal candidate is nurturing, patient, and creative. If you have a passion for helping children learn and reach their potential, we want to hear from you!

The Head Start Assistant Teacher assists the Head Start Teacher in providing effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning, assessment, evaluation and related research for children ages 3-5 years old. The Head Start Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Head Start Teacher in providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, supervision of children assigned in the classroom, and providing a supportive and positive classroom climate, while ensuring the individual needs of the children are met as mandated by Head Start, federal, state and local standards.

Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or related field, with a minimum of 15 college credit hours in early childhood education, or a Bachelor’s in a related area with 30 ECE hours needed to qualify as a Teacher.
  • 2+ years of early childhood education experience desirable.
  • 1+ years of experience working with assigned age group desirable.
Core Responsibilities
  • Instruct preschool-aged children in activities designed to promote intellectual and creative growth.
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment.
  • Develop schedules and routines to ensure adequate physical activity, rest, and playtime.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Communicate with parents on students' growth and progress.
  • Maintain the health and safety of all students.
  • Ensure all program mandates and standards for excellence are met on a daily basis.
Additional Skills
  • Must meet annual physical requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and experience with database and/or record-keeping software.
  • Computer literacy required; able to navigate basic computer functions, complete online training and communicate by email independently.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret documents such as policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child growth and development.
  • Ability to build rapport with children, parents and families.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in childcare, managing, teaching, or other related fields.
  • Passionate about working with children.
  • Ability to build rapport with children.
  • Positive and patient demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
