Special Education Teacher (2026–2027 School Year)

Providence Englewood Charter School

Position begins August 2026

Position Overview

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role includes delivering specialized instruction, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, collaborating with general education teachers, and supporting students’ academic, social, and behavioral growth in an inclusive environment.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Fulfill all assigned supervision and service duties
  • Take attendance within the first 5 minutes of each class period
  • Maintain accurate and compliant special education records and documentation
  • Monitor and track IEP timelines, evaluations, and service minutes
  • Enter grades, progress notes, and documentation into Power School and special education systems
  • Ensure confidentiality of all student records in compliance with FERPA and IDEA
Instructional Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals
  • Modify and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
  • Differentiate instruction using research-based strategies and interventions
  • Co-teach and collaborate with general education teachers in inclusive settings
  • Provide small group and individualized instruction
  • Implement accommodations and modifications across content areas
  • Utilize data-driven instruction to monitor student growth
  • Maintain an organized, structured, and supportive classroom environment
IEP & Compliance Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, and implement IEPs in compliance with state and federal guidelines
  • Collect and analyze data to support IEP goals and progress monitoring
  • Schedule and lead IEP meetings with families and school staff
  • Ensure all services outlined in IEPs are delivered with fidelity
  • Complete progress reports aligned to IEP goals each reporting period
  • Collaborate with related service providers (speech, OT, social work, etc.)
Student Assessment & Family Communication
  • Regularly assess student progress toward IEP and grade-level standards
  • Communicate frequently with families regarding academic and behavioral progress
  • Provide updates during parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings
  • Proactively engage families as partners in student success
Enrichment & Student Support
  • Provide academic and behavioral interventions for students with diverse needs
  • Support students’ social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills
  • Coordinate and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed
  • Incorporate assistive technology and instructional tools
  • Facilitate inclusive practices and access to general education curriculum
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional dress, conduct, and confidentiality
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures
  • Attend all required meetings, including IEP meetings and professional development sessions
  • Participate in school-wide events (Open House, conferences, etc.)
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional growth in special education best practices
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure student success
  • Substitute for colleagues when necessary
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education
  • Current IL Type 10 LBS1 Special Education Teacher Certification (Illinois Provisional certificate accepted for out-of-state applicants)
  • Urban / high-need teaching experience (Chicago Public School experience preferred)
  • Experience with IMPACT SSM (Case management experience required)
  • Experience in inclusion and co-teaching models
  • Experience writing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and data analysis
  • Experience working in urban or charter school environments
