Location: North/Northwest Side - 5510 North Christiana Avenue (Mary G Peterson School)
Salary Range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39
ResponsibilitiesCHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for instruction, specialized services and support to students for the purposes of developing the students’ ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language, discipline of all students in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for instructional planning, including lesson plans and preparation for each assigned student in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, Chicago Public Schools’ policies, Illinois Learning Standards, and state and federal law; administer tests and language assessments; assess progress; develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize appropriate instructional techniques for limited English proficient students; establish positive learning expectations;
maintain records; implement instructional methods; participate in attendance and anti‑vandalism programs; maintain discipline; coordinate conferences; communicate with parents; attend meetings; may coordinate field trips and extracurricular activities and use community resources.
Education and Experience: Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching license(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Licensure Requirements: Must possess the appropriate Illinois State Board of Education issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.

Skills:
Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements; knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching; knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques. Ability to modify instruction; cooperate with faculty and administration; work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community; understand student patterns. Skill in contemporary teaching practices; good oral and written communication; good interpersonal skills; exercise sound professional judgment.
Physical Requirements: Light work: up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally; up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently; or negligible amount constantly. Includes stooping occasionally, reaching frequently, handling objects occasionally, talking and hearing constantly, frequent near visual acuity, occasional far visual acuity.
