Job DescriptionThe UChicago Charter School’s North Kenwood/Oakland campus is named after and located at the juncture of the South Side neighborhoods of North Kenwood and Oakland, historic communities formed by African Americans and others seeking a better life, including high quality educational opportunities for their children. In 2008, North Kenwood/Oakland was honored as the recipient of the Illinois State Federation of Community Schools’ Dimon Distinguished Community Schools Award.

Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and student‑centered Second Grade Teacher to deliver ambitious high‑quality instruction within a classroom environment that not only incorporates evidence‑based analysis of practice to ensure that all students can achieve at high levels, but also provides a stimulating, challenging, and productive learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and deliver engaging curriculum‑aligned lessons using diverse, research‑based teaching strategies.
- Analyze and use formative assessment data to improve instruction and design assessments using the learning standards of the University of Chicago Charter School.
- Work with students individually to address learning gaps, special needs, or behavioral challenges.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic development.
- Create a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment for all students.
- Enable students to contribute to the community through the creation of new knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in education required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement.
- At least 2 years of urban teaching experience in related field.
- Reflective and receptive to professional feedback and coaching.
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to the success and achievement of all students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
- Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
$51,500 - $65,000
The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary will be commensurate with years of experience and education.
